We are proud to announce the launch of "Early Learning Spaces 0-3", a new initiative under the “First 1000 Days” program. This two-year project, running until March 2027, works to expand access to high-quality early childhood education for the youngest children (0-3) in vulnerable communities. The initiative is being implemented by the Health and Social Development Foundation (HESED), Hayachi Foundation, and Rise Bulgaria Foundation, with support from TSA.
Early learning spaces will be established in Kyustendil and in the villages of Stoyan Mihaylovski and Kaspichan. These spaces will offer 40 children access to evidence-based educational activities. A key component of the program is the Element of Play (EoP), which uses structured and engaging play to stimulate children's cognitive, emotional, and early social development.

The initiative also focuses on equipping parents with effective methods to support their children’s early development. Trained specialists from HESED and Hayachi organizations will guide this teaching, fostering a culturally sensitive and quality learning environment. In Stoyan Mihaylovski, families will receive individual home visits, while group activities will be held in the community centers of Kyustendil and Kaspichan.
Rise Bulgaria will play a central role in the initiative by guiding the implementation of the "Element of Play" model, ensuring the learning services are delivered in a culturally sensitive manner, and maintaining program quality through monitoring and consultation. The foundation will also advocate for the expansion of early learning programs across Bulgaria's social services system, aligning with TSA’s broader goal of improving school readiness among vulnerable children.

This initiative underscores that early childhood education plays a critical role in breaking the cycle of poverty and enhancing long-term outcomes for vulnerable children. Children living in social isolation – particularly from the Roma community – tend to miss out on early education due to legislative gaps that prevent the establishment of local services for small groups. benefit most from early inclusion in quality early education programs. As a result, many Roma children enroll in school at a much later age than their peers, facing challenges in adapting and keeping pace academically.
Through endeavors like “Early Learning Spaces 0-3", TSA, HESED, Hayachi, and Rise Bulgaria work to expand state support for early childhood education and create better opportunities for all Bulgarian children. Together, we can ensure every child’s first 1,000 days lays a solid foundation for a successful future.
