Building a better future for all – internationally recognized program aiming to provide land and home ownership to long-standing Roma communities of Kyustendil, Dupnitsa and Peshtera was presented at a special panel during the 7th. Dialogue meeting of the Council of Europe with the Roma and Traveler Civil society on April 11-12, 2019 in Strasbourg.
Topics of the two-day event were primarily focused on addressing discrimination in accessing adequate housing for Roma and Traveler in Europe, prevent forced evictions by using national and international legislation, action-based policies, best practices and initiatives in support of housing rights for Roma. Participants at the event were representatives of civil society organization and international institutions from Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia, Romania, Germany, UK, Finland, Italy and Belgium.
The Council of Europe Dialogue with Roma and Traveller Organisations was established by a decision of the Committee of Ministers of 3 June 2015.The Dialogue serves as a forum for Roma and Traveller civil society, the Council of Europe and other stakeholders to improve their knowledge by exchanging experiences and sharing examples of good practices, and to plan future co-operation activities at national and local level.
Building a better future for all was launched in 2014 by TSA in testing an innovative approach to zoning Roma settlements across Bulgaria as a precondition to provide them with the opportunity to become land and home owners, thus ensure better life chance and brighter future to all children.
