The Equal Chance program has been operational since 2011. Its main goal is to increase the share of Bulgarian disadvantaged pupils, especially the Roma, who complete secondary education, by addressing some of the financial needs that often prevent them from attending high school.
In its new phase the program will help such pupils through the provision of bus passes and support to students at 12 grade in perparation for successful of the matriculation exams.
Currently, it is estimated that just 43,7% of Roma in Bulgaria finished the Primary educational level and about 23% finish high school. In the next three years the project envisages supporting 60 students.
The partners will map and discover the invisible barriers in 3 districts related to affordability and accessibility in secondary education of school transportation, school lunch, school aids and other challenges, which students at secondary education level face and have to overcome on daily basis.
